Telford's Engineering Marvel

Built by Thomas Telford between 1803 and 1822, Neptune's Staircase raises the Caledonian Canal by around 19 metres over eight connected locks. Watching a boat work its way up or down is a genuine spectacle, and the setting — with Ben Nevis and the Nevis range beyond — is unforgettable. It sits within Banavie, close to Corpach and the canal sea lock.
